50 Police Constables were promoted to Sergeants on Friday afternoon, in a ceremony at the Police HQ in Floriana. Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri was present for the event.

In total, 34 men and 16 women were promoted. The 50 took an oath to be of service to the country when they originally joined the Police Force.

"The Police Force has done a lot of good and when I look at you I hope that you will be an integral part of the transformation taking place," the minister said.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa said that the Sergeants who will go to the district precincts need to be close to the people in their districts and develop the concept of working together. For those who will undertake investigative roles, he said, "I ask that you do your jobs with the utmost care, and give priority to the victims of crime."
