San Giljan march on, Sirens overcome Exiles

Sunday, 6 September 2020, 06:50 Last update: about 5 years ago

San Giljan kept up their perfect record to secure a place in the semi-finals of the play-offs, beating Sliema who expressed better waterpolo than they did against Neptunes, but it was not enough.

The Blues took an early double advantage but San Giljan quickly drew level. The saints pulled ahead but Sliema remained very much in the game and it was only in the last session that San Giljan shrugged off their opponents by opening up a three-goal lead.

Ben Plumpton was the best scorer for the saints with five goals, while Nicholas Bugelli scored four for Sliema.

In the other premier league match, Sirens snatched an important victory in a tight encounter against Exiles.
