"Telehealth Podiatry" is a new project launched this week by the Ministry for Health through the Director General, Clarence Pace, in collaboration with the Association of Podiatrists of Malta, which project is aimed to to raise awareness on the importance of foot health and footwear. Moreover, it is hoped that by following these recommendations one can prevent the development of foot complications which may arise from poor foot care and ill-fitting footwear especially in the elderly citizens.

An easy to follow video on daily footcare is being aired on TVM and TVM 2.

Daily footcare is essential in order to maintain healthy feet and prevent the development of foot problems. The Directorate of Allied Health Care Services and the Association of Podiatrists of Malta recognize the importance that the whole population especially the elderly people practice daily foot self-care. By educating the population, foot problems which develop due to negligence and due to lack of proper foot care will be avoided.

Ivan Farrugia- President of the Association of Podiatrists of Malta strongly believes that this short educational video will promote a better way to foot health practices, increasing awareness of the benefits of prevention and encouraging changes in behaviours. This will contribute towards a better understanding of caring about our feet and will lead to a better quality of life.

Rita Micallef - Director Allied Health Services has acknowledged the value of the collaboration of a Voluntary Organization with the Ministry for Health through the Podiatry Department under the lead of Andrew Scicluna and has thanked all the stakeholders that have intensely supported this initiative. She added that the expertise of all the stakeholders has given an added value to this information tool which will have a direct positive impact on the citizens of the Maltese Community.
