Gozitan hotelier Victor J Borg passes away

Gozitan hotelier Victor J Borg, died on Saturday at age 75.

Borg is best known for the Ta' Ċenċ and Cornucopia hotels.

Bothe the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party issued statements honouring Borg's memory.

Borg was promoting Gozo as a tourist destination as early as the 1970s, and had even marketed his own tours in the United Kingdom.

He had started out running a car hire business, before entering the hotel industry with the Cornucopia. The 90s saw him invest in the Ta' Ċenċ Hotel and the Patricks Hotel.

He had his share of run-ins with the environmental lobby, such as during the fight to develop land around the Sannat hotel.

Borg was appointed appointed a member of the National Order of Merit in 2012.
