Updated: Covid-19 - Another spike with 64 new patients; active cases near 600 again

There has been another spike in the number of Coronavirus cases, with 64 registered on Thursday.

The health authorities initially said that this has taken the number of active cases again beyond 600, but this was later revised to 581. The last time Malta had more than 600 cases was on 26 September.

It is the fourth time in the last seven days that the number of new cases surpassed 60 in one day. In all, 412 cases were recorded in the last seven days.

The number of patients who recovered was just 19.

In all, Malta has now also surpassed 3,500  Covid-19 cases since the first was registered on 7 March. The exact figure is 3,505, with 41 deaths reported.

The total number of people who have recovered from the virus is 2,884.

No details were given on today's cases.

With regard to cases reported on Wednesday, 15 were of family members of previously known cases, three were of contacts with positive work colleagues, seven were direct contacts of other positive cases, one was from a social gathering, two from the Paceville cluster and two were imported.

The health authorities aaid 2,491 swab tests were carried out for a total of 2,72,579.
