Active cases edge over 1,000 as 112 new cases of Covid-19 found in another record day

The number of active cases of Covid-19 in Malta has exceeded 1,000 people after a record 112 cases were found overnight by health authorities.

The 112 new cases reported on Thursday exceeds the previous record of 111 cases, which is the number of cases reported on Wednesday.

42 new recoveries meanwhile were also reported by authorities on Thursday, meaning that number of active cases of the virus stands at 1,009 – the first time that the number of active cases has hit the four-figure mark.

2,481 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 289,594.

Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated, but gave details about the cases reported on Wednesday.

Out of the 111 cases reported on Wednesday, 28 were family members of previously known cases, 5 were direct contacts of positive cases, 2 were contacts of work colleagues, 2 were from Paceville, and 1 was imported.

The number of total cases now stands at 4,160. 3,106 of these have recovered, while 45 have died.
