134 new Covid-19 cases found overnight as active cases exceed 1,500

134 new cases of Covid-19 were found in Malta overnight as the number of active cases exceeded the 1,500 mark on Tuesday.

40 new recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours, meaning that the exact number of active cases stands at 1,543.

2,690 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 303,016.

Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated, but gave details on the cases reported on Tuesday.

Out of the 109 cases reported on Monday, 36 were family members of previously known cases, 10 were direct contacts of positive cases, 6 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 6 were from social gatherings, 3 were imported, and 2 were from Paceville.

Malta has had 4,871 cases of Covid-19 since March.  3,282 have recovered, while 46 have died, with the most recent death being reported on Tuesday morning.
