155 new Covid-19 patients recorded as total number of cases exceeds 5,000

155 new cases of Covid-19 were found in the last 24 hours as the total number of cases of Covid-19 found since the pandemic began has now exceeded 5,000.

49 new recoveries meanwhile were also registered, taking the number of active cases up to 1,649.

2,823 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests done up to 305,839.

Authorities said that today’s cases are still being investigated, but gave details on the cases reported on Tuesday.

Out of the 134 cases reported, 20 were family members of previously known cases, 14 were cases from social gatherings, 12 were direct contacts of other positive cases, 8 were work colleagues of positive cases, and 2 were imported.

This means that Malta has now had 5,026 cases of the virus since March.  3,331 of those have recovered, while 46 have died.
