The estranged wife of Jason Azzopardi has written on Facebook that the wedding in Israel that was attended by the Nationalist MP was in March 2017, and not in July.

It could be that he had another wedding in Tel Aviv in July, Marica Azzopardi Balzan wrote, but what is sure is that “we had received an invitation for a wedding that was held in March”.

We had been invited to the wedding of the daughter of a rabbi in Tel Aviv in March 2017, and “I know this because the invitation arrived at my house”.

She said that both she and Jason Azzopardi had been invited for the wedding, but the lawyer had insisted on going on his own.

Jason Azzopardi has asked Standards Commissioner George Hyzler to investigate a stay in a Tel Aviv hotel, which was paid for by a Tumas Group businessman.

The request was made after Illum reported that the PN MP spent five days, between the 19 and 24 of July 2017 in a hotel in Tel Aviv, with everything having been paid for.

Azzopardi admitted that a stay in a hotel in Tel Aviv back in 2017 was paid for by a Tumas Group businessman, but denied having feeling any obligation towards him, arguing that he had found his hotel was paid for upon checkout and that he bought the businessman a gift as repayment in order not to owe him anything.

Azzopardi is representing the family of Daphne Caruana Galizia as parte civile in the court proceedings against Yorgen Fenech, who is accused of masterminding the murder, which took place in October 2017. Fenech was a director of the Tumas Group at the time of the trip to Israel.
