The Malta Correctional Services Agency has obtained a bulletproof SUV which will be used for the escort of high-risk prisoners.

The Ford SUV is equipped with internal beacon lights, bulletproof glass and a bullbar amongst other things.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that this is one of the measures announced during the Budget for 2020 which has now come to fruition.

He said that more investment in the correctional facility and its workers will continue to be made during the coming year, as announced in the 2021 budget last October.

“I believe that with the right tools, we will be safeguarding the health of our workers as well”, Camilleri said.
