Residents do not want Marsalforn to become a hub of social problems – Chris Said

People living in Marsalforn do not want to see their town become a hub where all social problems are thrown, PN MP Chris Said said, calling for urgent action to be taken.

In a Facebook post on his page on Tuesday, Said raised concern about the living conditions in Marsalforn which he said are getting worse by the day.

“Every day, people living in Marsalforn are raising concerns about their living situation in this area which is being exacerbated due to a number of problems,” the post read.

These problems include quarrels and fights in the streets of Marsalforn using bottles or other weapons which, he said, are becoming a daily occurrence, drug trafficking in broad daylight, damage to vehicles and residences and theft from dwellings.

Said also mentioned that shops in the area are serving alcohol all the time including those which stay open up until the early hours of the morning and said that this causes commotion and noise pollution throughout the night.

These are often reported to the police, but no action is taken or if it is, it is usually too late,” Said added.

He pointed out that a few years ago the local police station was embellished, with Ministers and officials of the Malta Police Force inaugurating it. “Residents want enforcement and action and not just a beautiful station. Enforcement currently does not exist.”

He explained that the ongoing works on the promenade of Marsalforn is a good thing, “but residents first and foremost want to prevent Marsalforn from becoming a place where all social problems are thrown, as this is the situation as it stands at the moment. They want it to be a safe family place.”

“Action is needed urgently.”
