Updated: 88 new cases of Covid-19 found, one patient dies

88 new cases of Covid-19 were detected on Saturday, and one patient has died, the health authorities said.

The number of active cases now stands at 1,566. 12,997 cases have been found in Malta so far.

33 people recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries so far up to 11,211.

The total number of deaths has reached 220 with the passing away of a 73-year-old woman who had tested positive on 14 December. She died on Friday at Mater Dei Hospital.

1,810 tests were performed over the past 24 hours, for a total of 519,346 tests to far.

The authorities said that Saturday’s cases are being investigated.

From Friday’s cases, 23 were from family members of previously known cases. 7 cases were contact of positive work cases. 9 cases were from direct contact with other positive cases. 7 were from social gatherings with other positive cases.
