Two arrested over New Year’s Day robbery

Two people were arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing a 67-year-old man in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The investigation was being carried out by the major crimes unit of the Police Force and together with the district police officers of Hamrun.

The victim was walking in Marsa when he was assaulted by the two men, one of whom is a 42-year-old man from Gzira and the other a 33-year-old man from Wild il-Ghajn. They then fled the scene after kicking the victim and stealing his mobile phone.

At around 9p.m Wednesday evening, after tracking down the vehicle used in the robbery, the district police officers apprehended the robbers in the same area where the robbery took place.

The two men are being held at the Police Headquarters and are awaiting to be arraigned in court in the coming hours.

Police investigations are currently ongoing.
