245 new cases of Covid-19 reported as active cases reach highest ever number

Another grim record has been set after 245 cases of Covid-19 were reported by health authorities on Saturday.

It is the highest ever number of cases reported in a single-day in Malta, surpassing the 224 cases reported last Wednesday.

Coupled with 69 recoveries, and two more deaths related to the virus reported earlier this morning, the number of active cases has now increased to 2,221, which is the highest that the figure has ever been in Malta.

3,592 swab tests were carried out in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 540,260 so far.

Giving details about the 191 cases reported on Friday, authorities said that: 40 cases were family members of previously known cases, 22 cases were work colleagues of positive cases, 15 were direct contacts of other positive cases, and 13 were related to social gatherings.

Malta has now had 14,212 cases of the virus.  11,759 of those have recovered, while 232 have died.
