Charles Azzopardi tells Prime Minister to no longer contact him

Wednesday, 13 January 2021, 19:10 Last update: about 4 years ago

Charles Azzopardi, the former Rabat Mayor who contested the casual election for the parliamentary seat of former Finance Minister Edward Scicluna and lost, has hit out at Gavin Gulia's resignation.

Gavin Gulia won the casual election, but resigned just minutes after being sworn in, paving the way for the government being able to co-opt a new MP.

Azzopardi said that he knew that it would not have been possible for him to have been elected in the casual election, as he and his wife had seen a "block vote," during the election itself.

He said that the country's destiny is in danger.

He said that he was expecting to wait a month before what happened, happened, "but less than 24 hours..."

He said it seems that it didn't matter who was elected, and that this was why nobody was at the counting hall.

"Don't continue calling me. Prime Minister, don't contact me anymore and don't send me any messages or people to my home. Leave me in peace. Charles Azzopardi is not the imbecile you thought. Learn compassion. Don't lauch at your own people. I am proud that no, I am no longer one of you."
