Two men were arrested on Thursday morning after they were caught red-handed trying to steal from a construction site in Qormi.

In a statement, the police said that around half-past midnight they received a call with information that some people had gotten into a residence which was under construction and were in the process of stealing from it.

District police and police from the Rapid Intervention Unit immediately went on site – Triq il-Gdida in Qormi – and began searching buildings which are being constructed in the road.

In front of one of them, police spotted a vehicle which was open and which had its keys inside it.  It was filled with an amount of construction tools, further raising suspicion.

In the end, two men – a 30-year-old from Hamrun and a 31-year-old from Mosta – were found hiding in the garage of one of the residences and were arrested.

Further investigations showed that the vehicle being used had the number plates of another vehicle and an expired license.

The duo are being held at Police lock-up in Floriana as investigations continue.
