Oliver Scicluna has been sworn in as an MP after earlier in the day he announced that he has resigned from the role of Commissioner for Rights of Persons with Disability to take up the new role of a Labour MP.

Scicluna had replaced Gavin Gulia who resigned just a few moments after he was sworn in,  after he won a casual election to replace former Finance Minister Edward Scicluna in Parliament., saying that he was told by the PM that he should retain his place as Malta Tourism Authority’s chairman.

PM Robert Abela confirmed that Scicluna would be co-opted to parliament last Friday, as did Labour Party’s Deputy Leader Daniel Micallef.

“I want to thank the Prime Minister for the faith he has shown in me,” Scicluna said.

“As everyone knows, over the last few years, I worked with people who have a disability. I never looked at any face or any colours. I hope that I can help everyone. With all honesty, I want to work with both sides of parliament, both PL and PN,” Scicluna remarked.

He also thanked his family, the disability sector and all those who believed in him.
