Patients at Karin Grech Hospital who are aged 85 years or older, and others over 60 who are long-term patients are receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination, the government said today.
This excludes patients who are positive to the virus or in quarantine, and others who cannot be vaccinated because of their medical condition or who refused the jab.
All professionals and other workers at the hospital are also being vaccinated.
Oncology patients will be administered the vaccination before they start to receive chemotherapy. This is being done so that the patients are protected before their immunity is weakened.
Patients who have already started to receive chemotherapy will be given a date for their vaccination, based on the advice of consultants.
