Three Slovakian men were arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a fellow countryman earlier this week.

The police said the 30-year-old victim was approached by the three men in Salib Street, Mellieha, last Wednesday.

They forced him into a car and drove to Ahrax tat-Tunnara, limits of Mellieha, where they bound him to a tree and demanded money, threatening him with a knife.

After some time, the three aggressors took their victim to a Sliema hotel, holding him against his will overnight.

When, the next day, the aggressors tried to take their victim to another location, he managed to escape and called for help.

People who heard his cries contacted the police, with members of the Rapid Intervention Unit arriving on site to arrest the aggressors.

The police later located the car used by the three men and found objects belonging to the victim in their possession.
