The police are mulling taking action against Nexia BT, MaltaToday reports.

The newspaper says that the former Managing Partner of the company, Brian Tonna, will post police bail on Monday and that charges over the financial operations of the audit firm before it closed are expected to be prepared.

Nexia BT gained fame as being the company that helped acquire the Panama companies for Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri.

Tonna has been in the news recently In September 2020, a court had issued an order to freeze all assets held by former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri as well as Brian Tonna, among others. This came just days after the conclusion of a magisterial inquiry into whether the former prime minister's chief of staff, Keith Schembri, took a €100,000 kickback on passport sales. Both men had denied any wrongdoing and said the €100,000 was the repayment of a personal loan given to Tonna by Schembri.
