Two elderly people were grievously injured in a two-car crash in San Gwann on Monday morning.

The accident took place in Triq Bella Vista at around 10:30am, the police said.

The casualties, an 84-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman from San Gwann, were driving a Toyota Starlet that collided with a Nissan Qashqai driven by a 45-year-old man from Għargħur.

They were given first aid on site and were later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit is holding an inquiry. District police are also investigating.
