The dramatic events which took place on Saturday in court shook the country to its core. While some may have been genuinely surprised at the outcome, many were not surprised at all - yet they still could not believe this was really happening.

The events have left a country in disarray. People are confused and many are hurt. There is a sense of disbelief that all this has really been happening in our country for all these years and that now, finally, it's all rising to the surface.

And this is just the beginning of a series of court sittings which will undoubtedly continue to create new wounds and reopen old ones.

First, let's not forget that Saturday's night in court would not ever have happened had it not been for Daphne Caruana Galizia. Her very last blog post, before she was brutally assassinated, was precisely about this case.

In an earlier post published on 9 May 2017, Daphne wrote: "On 19 April 2013, a month after the Labour Party won the general election, Mossack Fonseca's office in the British Virgin Islands was sent three separate letters by these (three) men, ordering changes to their companies and also asking for bank accounts to be opened. Keith Schembri's and Adrian Hillman's letters explicitly state: 'That a bank account is opened in the name of the company. The choice of the bank will be communicated by my agents in Malta.' The agents were Brian Tonna and Karl Cini of Nexia BT. All three letters state that full powers over the companies are to be given to Tonna or Cini. The three companies were then used to launder a minimum of $2.5 million as shown in documents in the Panama Papers."

The post included documents to substantiate what Daphne Caruana Galizia wrote.

Last Saturday's events also took place because one man had the courage to do the right thing. Simon Busuttil never shied away from the truth. It was he, and not Joseph Muscat or any Labour minister, who opened two important inquiries which led to the arrest of eleven persons all connected with what Daphne Caruana Galizia had written in her blog.

After hours of silence following the court events, Labour has come up with a narrative that beggars belief. In a nutshell, Labour is saying that all this was between private entities and that events took place under a PN government!

The audacity of such statements continues to create further concern. Not only are they far from the truth. They are also trying to distract from the clear truth that Labour is directly linked to these events.

The documents cited by Daphne Caruana Galizia, which specifically gave instructions related to bank account openings, are dated 19 April 2013. Joseph Muscat was the Prime Minister then. The bank details would turn out to be those of the infamous Pilatus Bank.

Keith Schembri was not only Muscat's right-hand man. Many within Labour have described him as "the master mind" and "guru" behind Labour's electoral victories. How can they detach themselves from him now?

The long post Schembri uploaded on his Facebook profile, hours before being arrested, included the photo of Labour's victorious crowd. This was a clear message to all within Labour and their supporters. Schembri wanted to remind everyone that he was the one who made Labour what it is today. And that of course he could bring it down just as easily.

Brian Tonna and Nexia BT not only had an office in Castille, something which has never been denied by the Labour government, but they (or at least Brian Tonna alone) were also the accountants for the Labour Party itself.

On Tuesday we had yet another development in this never-ending saga. Two of the accused of Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder are requesting a presidential pardon in return for information on another middleman, a mastermind, a minister, and an ex-minister, all involved in the assassination and/or in other criminal cases.

The Caruana Galizia family are strongly opposing further pardons. Their reasoning is more than justified. With all these requests for pardons, who is going to pay for the assassination? How can true justice be served?

The link between Labour Party and the criminal underworld has now been established. It is vital for the institutions to do their utmost to bring everybody to justice. The country desperately needs it.

Labour Party supporters feel totally betrayed by the demigods, not least he who had the nerve to call himself Invictus. The economy of the country is at a standstill. First because of Covid-19, and now because of all these scandals. Our country's reputation is totally shattered.

Bernard Grech and the Nationalist Party are calling out for the country to turn a new page. A few courageous persons are stepping forward and stating their concerns about the state of this nation. These concerns, especially for businesses in the financial sector, are echoing the PN's concerns.

In turning a new page we need to recognise the crisis we are in and work hard, collectively, to restore our country's reputation. Not all politicians, accountants or businessmen are corrupt. Only a few are, but these few are very close to the criminal underworld and have taken over the leading institutions.

Unless we want our children and children's children to condemn us for ruining this country and turning it into a Mafia state, we must act fast and we must act now.
