The works ongoing at Comino are as per an ERA permit, the Gozo Ministry has said, while adding that no development is taking place, only the fixing up of existing infrastructure
The Gozo Ministry has said that the ongoing works at the Blue Lagoon, Comino, consist only of fixing up existing infrastructure. It stressed that there is no other development.
The works, the ministry said, consist of resurfacing the existing passage and the quay with aggregate concrete, in order to make them more safe and accessible for all those who want to go around the bay.
The ministry said that the passage forms part of the existing network and is essential for access to Blue Lagoon. "The passage degraded over the years and it needed to be fixed as soon as possible, so that the existing risk that it would collapse will be eliminated."
The ministry stressed that no tarmac or cement will be used.
After consultation with Enemalta, a low culvert in the zone where works are ongoing is being created to eliminate the use of electricity generators, which will reduce the noise pollution in the bay.
The ministry stressed that there is no plan for a fixed kiosk.
The quay structure is being strengthened due to natural erosion.
It stressed that there is no development taking place on Comino, and that the works taking place as mentioned above are according to an ERA permit.
Earlier in the day, this newsroom reported that a spokesperson for the authority said that no PA permission is required for the works.
