A man who aggressively intimidated and physically attacked two Planning Authority enforcement officers was arrested and arraigned in Court to face criminal charges.

The attack happened after the Planning Authority concluded investigations regarding illegal development that was carried out at a site in Ħal Qormi.

The officers were serving an enforcement notice on the property in terms of the law.

The contravener verbally threatened and physically attacked both officers.

Following the incident, both officers filed a report at the local Police Station and one of the officers sought medical assistance at a health centre.

Within 24 hours the Police arrested the contravener and initiated criminal charges in Court. The presiding Magistrate granted bail to the accused on a number of conditions. The case will continue in the coming weeks.

The Planning Authority provided the necessary assistance to the officers involved. The Authority unreservedly condemns any type of harassment or abuse on public officials carrying out their duties.
