Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi during Tuesday's parliamentary sitting made reference to BNP Paribas and Pilatus Bank "who put shame to Malta's reputation by association."

Azzopardi stated that the relevant authorities need to answer as to why officials of Pilatus Bank have not been brought to justice even after it was revealed that the magisterial inquiry cost €7.5 million.

Azzopardi said that the €7.5 million was a price tag that tax payers have to pay due to the Labour government digging its own hole. He went on to stress that this money could have been used to build two schools instead of dealing with the government's corruption.

With regards to BNP Paribas, the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation asked the French government to investigate the bank and the 'dirty' deal it had with financing the Electrogas project.

During the parliamentary adjournment Azzopardi presented articles with the bank's record, ones which also read that it was financing a terror group.

This association Azzopardi said has associated the Maltese citizens with criminals and terrorists. Apart from the financing of genocide, BNP Paribas is also in breach of aiding human rights violations and breach of United States financial regulations.

BNP Paribas officials were ordered multiple times from the Maltese authorities to appear in court but as of yet they are still to come to Malta. "What are the Maltese authorities and the police doing to bring these people to Malta?" Azzopardi said while reiterating that corruption and money laundering charges are not being given their importance.
