Singer/songwriter Mark Spiteri Lucas returns to the music scene with new video

The Lucas family is synonomous with the local music scene having produced amongst the finest musicians and performers in Malta including: John Charles Lucas, Oscar Lucas, Godwin Lucas and Joe Cutajar. Mark is a product of this same family and has earned a reputation as one of the most prolific composers in the country, known mostly for 2001 success with “Fejn Staħbejtli”, an original song penned by Paul Ellul with Ira Losco providing the vocals.

During the years, there were only a few instances where Mark presented himself as a singer/songwriter in a song competition, but when he did put his name forward, he was chosen to partake and did so in some of Malta’s leading spectacles including: L-Għanja tal-Poplu, Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, Festival Super One and most recently Mużika Mużika – Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija.

‘Lil Binti’, the song presented during Mużika Mużika – Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija, which Mark both composed and penned was produced by Andrew Zammit, with an orchestral arrangement created by Maestro Joe Brown. It seems to have left a significant impact on the local music scene, having entered the Charts on Malta’s Top 10, apart from securing 3,000 streams on Spotify and 6,000 views on YouTube.

The song made Mark Spiteri Lucas think long and hard about a return to the local music scene as a singer/songwriter rather than a one off, and therefore wanted to kick things off by giving life to ‘Lil Binti’. This could only be done through a music video, shot entirely at the Cavalieri Art Hotel in St Julians, with the producer being Marlon Polidano, who in turn was also the artistic director together witth Ludwig Galea.

“It was a pleasure not only writing and singing this song but also leaving a visual memory, something my daughter Greta can physically replay time and time again, recalling the previous memories we spent together, something that we won’t be able to re-create when I am no longer present”, says Mark Spiteri Lucas whilst adding that “Lil Binti was the push I needed as an artist, with the idea to release more original material in the months to come.”

‘Lil Binti’ is available on digital platforms iTunes and Spotify thanks to German distribution company CAP-Sounds, responsible for its digital release, and promotion planned by Ironic PR & Artist Management.
