The Saga of Barda Street, M’Forn, Gozo – Food for thought

Sunday, 9 May 2021, 07:14 Last update: about 4 years ago

Many years have passed since my first letter to defend the rights of Barda Street residents. Barda Street is a cul-de-sac or dead-end street and the residents are increasing every day due to more flats being built. So parking is more than ever becoming a nightmare. To add insult to injury, those who built the flats in front of Barda Street, left an immense cavity about 4 storeys deep. Moreover, the separating wall was built with only one or two bricks.

This is creating a hazard for residents especially children. At the far end of the street there is a badly constructed stairs.

This was supposed to be an easy way towards the sea, however, this is again a hazard especially to old people. Lately, the Hon. Dr.  Joe Ellis LLD. MP mentioned this horrible situation in Parliament.

This has been a recurring problem, however, no Gozo Minister ever wanted to face the music! This is a clear case of safety hazard and infringement of the residents’, especially children’s’ dignity. In these last years, I contacted the Mayors of Zebbug, Gozo several times, but unfortunately, this appeal seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

As Shakespeare wrote in ‘Twelfth Night’: “Some are born great, some achieve greatness but some have greatness trust upon them!”

Viva la liberta’ dei potenti!
