Monday, 17 May 2021, 17:13 Last update: about 5 years ago

Alexandra Mamo will become Malta’s first female deputy police commissioner, Minister for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri confirmed on Monday.

Camilleri confirmed Mamo’s new position in Parliament, after he was asked by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi if Mamo will officially be promoted to the role of deputy commissioner.

Camilleri said that Mamo was chosen from a public call for applications for the role, which was issued last January.

Mamo has served in the Malta Police Force for over 31 years and is currently an Assistant Commissioner. She is leading the Financial Crimes Investigation Department after taking over the unit from Ian Abdilla last year.
