Malta goes two weeks without deaths related to Covid-19

Malta has gone two weeks – and counting – without deaths related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The death count has stood at 417 since a 95-year-old woman passed away on 7 May while positive for Covid-19.

The good news comes as the number of active cases in Malta continues to decrease – now standing at 96, which is the first time since last July that the number of active cases has gone below 100.

In total, 263 men and 154 women have passed away as a result of the virus – most of them elderly.

10 out of the 417 to have passed away died in Gozo – including the first victim of the pandemic.

The death count for the past two weeks places Malta as one of the best in Europe: Iceland too have registered no deaths in the last two weeks, while Finland, Norway, Denmark and Portugal have registered extremely low numbers as well.

It comes as Malta’s vaccination drive pushes the country closer and closer to herd immunity.
