Summer to start with a bang: Temperatures to rise sharply

These last few days of spring will see a sharp rise in temperatures.

20 June, which is the last day of the spring season, will see the temperature rise to its highest so far this year – 34 degrees Celsius, with a feel like of 36.

The first day of summer, 21 June, will be slightly less hot at 33 degrees, and a feel like of 35, according to the Met Office.

The weather will be sunny all throughout this week, with light winds mostly from the south but turning west later.

People are urged to avoid being in the sun during peak hours, to drink lots of water and to wear light clothes.
