Adverts promoting Gozo as a touristic destination will feature on trams in the German cities of Berlin and Frankfurt amongst other places, as the government intensifies its spending on initiatives marketing the country as a post-pandemic touristic destination.

The VisitGozo campaign was launched by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri as part of the government’s efforts to promote Gozo on the touristic map for the coming months.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Camilleri said that the promotional campaign will operate across all possible platforms – both digital and traditional.

The campaign will be centred on attracting tourists from central and western Europe through countries such as Germany and those in Scandinavia.

Camilleri said that the VisitGozo advert will adorn trams in Berlin and Frankfurt, while the adverts will also be used on social media, television and other places which are frequented by thousands of people.

Extensive work is being carried out on the VisitGozo website in order to present a modern look and offer more information about different tourist niches in Gozo.

Camilleri said that Gozo has also gained the eye of a number of websites after being awarded a high ranking in the Quality Coast Awards, getting maximum points in the Gold Destinations category.

He said that the touristic sector is one of the most important economic pillars for Gozo, and said that for this to be strengthened, a lot of infrastructural and connectivity works and projects, such as the Gozo Fast Ferry, were enabled.

The Director for Tourism and Economic Development within the Gozo Ministry Ronald Sultana also said that they are offering schemes to Gozitan operators, including marketing ones, in order to improve their appeal to would be tourists.

Permanent Secretary John Borg, Gozo Tourism Authority’s CEO Joe Muscat and Chairman Paul Scicluna, and the CEO of the Gozo Business Chamber Daniel Borg were all present at the press conference.
