Director of States Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey visits Malta

Prof. Dr Uğur Ünal, Director of States Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and his delegation commenced a visit to Malta on 14 June, which ended today. 

During this visit, Profs Dr Ünal signed a Protocol on Cooperation between the Directorate of State Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and the National Archives of the Republic of Malta.

He started his official visit at the National Archives Head Office in Rabat followed by a tour to Mdina where he was also exposed to the National Archives Legal Documentation Section and the Cathedral Archives.  After lunch, Prof Dr Uğur Ünal was guided around St. Elmo War Museum in Valletta. 

In the afternoon, accompanied by Dr Charles Farrugia, the CEO of Malta’s National Archives, they made a Courtesy visit to H.E. Ambassador Kerem Kıratlı and later proceeded to the Turkish Military Cemetery in Marsa. 

During his stay, he also visited the National Museum of Archaeology and later together with Ambassador Kerem Kıratlı met with Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Jose Herrera at the Ministry in Valletta. An MOU signing ceremony between the National Archives of Malta and Turkey then took place.  

This official visit was brought to an end on the morning of Wednesday 16 June by the departure of the delegation.
