Occupy Justice activists ‘plant’ placards in Republic Street

#occupyjustice activists ‘planted’ placards in the Republic Street planters in front of the Parliament building.

The slogans included:

•           Fil-Parlament ma jikbrux fjuri, imma ħdura hawn kemm trid

•           Grazzi Sur Jason Micallef, ħloqtilna spazju biex inwaslu leħinna

•           Ministru Ian Borg, ħalli siġra mġiddma!

            and

•           It-tieni interconnector? Mela l-Electrogas x’nambuha?

In a statement, the NGO said that it is confident that other activists and members of the public will also view the planters erected by the Valletta Cultural Agency as an opportunity to leave messages to all politicians who disrespect the electorate, and encourage all to make use of this space.

Agency chairman Jason Micallef told us all that, due to ‘public request’, his Valletta Green Festival Planters would now become a permanent fixture. “Incidentally, #occupyjustice would like to ask Mr Micallef whether, due to ‘public request’, he is going to resign and stop using his political appointments and social media as a platform to attack civil society,” the NGO said.

On an island where Minister Ian Borg seems hell-bent on destroying anything which gives us a little beauty and respite, it is perhaps fitting that a symbol of this Uglification Period is represented on the main street in our capital city, #occupyjustice said. “The planters are a just a crass, useless reminder of the once beautiful trees that dotted our islands. The few plants and shrubs struggling to survive in shallow soil and penned into a small restrictive space, sadly reflect our country’s dying soul."
