A Canadian man was arrested last Friday in connection with importation, trafficking and aggravated possession of cannabis, the police said Monday.

The police said they were informed by the Customs Department that three boxes with 18,000 cigarettes containing illegal substances had been imported.

The addressee was a Canadian man, aged 62, who resides in Swieqi.

Searches at the residence led to other items extracted from cannabis and cigarettes which were similar to the ones that had been discovered by the Customs Department.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea is leading an inquiry.

The man was charged in court.
