A firefighter was grievously injured today after a Civil Protection Department vehicle fell into a valley in Qormi.

The accident took place in Wied il-Kbir at around 3:30pm, the police said.

The vehicle was being driven by a 22-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay. Another man, 37, from Zurrieq, was riding as a passenger. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into the valley below.

Both men were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. The 22-year-old was later certified to have suffered grievous injuries while the other man was uninjured.

The police are investigating.
