Parliament to discuss post-Covid economic recovery plan on Thursday

Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Wednesday that the post-Covid economic recovery and resilience plan, will prioritise the environment and the digital transformation.

Abela also agreed to the request made by the Opposition for the plan to be discussed in Parliament. This debate will be held on Thursday morning.

Speaking in Parliament about the post-Covid economic recovery plan which was approved by the Cabinet on Monday, Abela explained that the government’s priorities regarding the environment include the transition to e-powered cars and public transport, the digital transformation of public services, health, including the building of a new blood bank, investment in schools as well as climate change.

Following the latest EU summit meeting, held a few days ago, Abela spoke on how the EU leaders discussed the issue of migration and the need to help countries of origin and transit. He mentioned that places such as Libya require a concrete action plan to bring about stability and improve security at its borders.

Abela also said that during the summit, Hungary’s controversial new laws affecting LGBTIQ+ people was also discussed.

Speaking about Covid-19, Abela said that he looks forward to join the EU Green Certificate process on Thursday in order to facilitate travel and business.

He also remarked that the health authorities will continue being in cautious in the lifting of restrictions related to Covid-19 to avoid any risks.
