Updated: Man stabbed to death in Mellieħa, woman arrested

A Filipino man was stabbed to death in Mellieħa this morning, the police said.

A woman, also from the Philippines and aged 44, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The man, aged 44, who lives in Mellieħa, was found dead with stab wounds in a residence in Triq il-Fortizza.

In a statement, the police said that that around 12.45am they received a request for help from a woman who said she will be waiting for officers in Main Street, Mellieha.

Police officers from the Qawra station went on site, with the woman telling them that she had been involved in an argument with a man. The woman was wounded, the police said.

The woman did not indicate where the argument had taken place.

She was given treatment and taken to the police headquarters.

It was at 4am that the woman told the police that the argument had taken place in a residence in Triq il-Fortizza, and that a knife had been used.

Police officers went on site and found the dead man, face down, in the kitchen.

The body was covered by a sheet. He was certifed dead by a medical team.

The man had been stabbed in the chest and neck.

The police lifted two knives which were allegedly used in the argument.

Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.
