Internationally renowned film professionals in Malta for the Master of Arts in Film Studies

Wednesday, 7 July 2021, 11:28 Last update: about 4 years ago

The Master of Arts in Film Studies course combines the theoretical aspects in Film Studies with a practical component during which the students collectively plan and shoot short films, developing them from the scriptwriting to the postproduction stages. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year's two films were postponed and as a result, four films will be made in the coming weeks. In order to help the students reach their full potential and to keep the tight schedule such projects demand, internationally acclaimed directors active in the European film industry are invited to act as mentors.

This year, we are very pleased to welcome back Silvia Luzi and Luca Bellino who have tutored the student cohort in 2019. They will be overseeing the making of two short films, Son and Lilly. Pre-production on these two shorts will start on 12 July and the screening of the final products is scheduled to be held on 26 July.

The second group of students, on the other hand, will enjoy the support of Hana Jusic and Martijn Smits. Work on the two films Lixka and Missing will commence on 26 July and the screening is to be held on 8 August.

A final returning expert is the director of photography Olaf Hirschberg, who will provide guidance and insight to the students so as to ensure that the short films' cinematography is of the highest standards.

The MA in Film Studies course is sponsored by the Malta Film Commission. Further information may be obtained online or by getting in touch with the course coordinator Prof. Gloria Lauri-Lucente via email
