The law courts were evacuated on Thursday morning after police received an anonymous bomb threat.

In a statement, the Court Services Agency said that the court administration received a phone call from the Valletta police station at around 9:45am stating that an anonymous telephone call had been made to the police depot in Floriana speaking of a bomb threat to the building.

A plan of evacuation was prepared and carried out by court officials in collaboration with the Inspector in charge of the Valletta police station, while the Bomb Disposal Unit was called in.

The statement did not say whether the threat was real or whether anything suspicious was found, but people were allowed back into court at around 11:45am.

The court’s registry hours meanwhile were extended for the day to make up for the disruption.
