96 new Covid-19 cases reported as active cases surpass 250

96 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Friday as a massive spike in cases continues to take hold of the island again.

Three people meanwhile have recovered, while no deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours – meaning that the number of active cases currently stands at 252.

It’s the highest number of cases detected in a single day since 103 cases were found on 26 May.

2,903 swab tests were carried out on Thursday, taking the total number of tests up to 1,009,413 so far.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive hit another milestone as 700,180 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far.

368,449 of those have been first doses, while 346,739 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 30,851 cases of the virus. 30,179 of those have recovered, while 420 have died.
