Saturday, 10 July 2021, 12:32 Last update: about 4 years ago

The number of new Covid-19 cases registered on Saturday is 109, while only two patients have recovered, health authorities said.

It is the first time since 26 March that the number of new cases was more than 100 in a single day.

The health authorities did not give details on the cases recorded on Saturday, but on Friday said that the great majority of the new cases found this week were linked to students learning English in Malta.

This pushed the authorities to announce the closure of these schools as from Wednesday, while anyone travelling to Malta must be vaccinated, also from the same date.

The number of active cases is now 359.

The total number of cases registered in Malta has now climbed to 30,960, with 420 deaths.

There have been 30,181 patients who recovered.

The number of swab tests carried out on Friday has again climbed to more than 3,000 - 3,164, to give the precise figure. The total is now 1,012,577.

Until Friday, the number of vaccinations was 703,928. Of these, 369,854 were a first dose while 349,133 people are fully vaccinated.
