Maltese citizens who were abroad when the government changed regulations on entering Malta can return home with a negative PCR test and without the need to quarantine, Superintendent of Health Charmaine Gauci said.

Gauci said "we will be allowing Maltese citizens who are already abroad with booked dates for return to come with a negative PCR and without need for quarantine".

Gauci was replying to MEP candidate Peter Agius in an email, which he posted on Facebook.

The government on Friday said that, as of Wednesday, all travellers will be accepted in Malta only if they present a recognised COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

This means that only adults vaccinated with an EU-recognised vaccine - Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Janssen -  will be allowed into Malta.

Children travelling with vaccinated parents will need a negative PCR test. Children under the age of 5 do not need one.

Unaccompanied minors are not allowed to travel to Malta.
