222 Covid-19 cases found, no details provided on new cases

222 cases of Covid-19 were reported by health authorities on Thursday, with no details being given on where these cases have emerged from.

With 10 recoveries and no new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases currently stands at 1,212.

No information about where the new cases derived from – whether they were imported, cases of local transmission or particular clusters – was given.

Health authorities told The Malta Independent, after questions were sent, that some 70% of Wednesday’s 218 cases were tourists, and that around 90% of the cases were unvaccinated.

3,629 swab tests were carried out, taking the total number of swab tests so far up to 1,029,618.

Meanwhile, 715,447 doses of the vaccine had been administered up until Wednesday, with 377,373 of those being a first dose.

353,929 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 31,834 cases of the virus. 30,202 of those have recovered, while 420 have died.
