Sunday, 18 July 2021, 12:49 Last update: about 4 years ago

195 new Covid-19 cases were registered on Sunday, as the number of active cases rose to 1,832.

Just five people recovered from the virus.

This means that the total number of cases reported in the country since the start of the pandemic now stands at 32,470, of which 30,218 have recovered and 420 people have died.

Thus far, 723,299 Covid-19 vaccination doses have been administered, 383,158 of which were first doses. 357,236 people are now fully vaccinated.

In total, 1,041,418 swab tests have been carried out in the country.

Malta has been dealing with an increase in Covid-19 cases over the past couple of weeks. The rise resulted in the government introducing certain restrictive measures, such as the closure of English language schools, and restrictions on travellers to the country. Currently, people may only enter Malta and avoid quarantine if they are in possession of a recognised vaccination certificate.

The rise in cases came quite suddenly, after a period where cases in Malta had reduced significantly.

The authorities also provided details of the cases registered on Saturday.

Of the 206 positive cases reported on Saturday, the health authorities said, 151 were people aged between 10 and 39. The average age of the cases registered on Saturday was 27.

A total of 18 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, one of whom is in the ITU.
