A toddler suffered serious injuries after falling a storey and a half out of a window on Tuesday morning, police said.

In a statement, the police said that at around 10:30am it was informed that assistance was needed in Triq ir-Rattan in Mellieha.

Preliminary investigations showed that a two-year-old boy has fallen a storey and a half out of a window.

The boy was given assistance by a medical team and taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Duty magistrate Nadine Lia has opened an inquiry while police investigations are also still ongoing.

In a separate incident, a 54-year-old Indian man was grievously injured after he fell off a ladder while working at the University of Malta at around 10am on Tuesday morning.  He too was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for medical attention.
