Pride march cancelled for second year running, symbolic demonstration to take place

The annual Pride march has, for a second year, been cancelled due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Allied Rainbow Communities, which coordinates Malta Pride, announced that the march, which was scheduled to take place on September 18 this year will not take place so that they can abide by the regulations on events currently in force.

However, a number of other events and initiatives during Pride Week – which runs between 10 and 19 September – which do comply with Covid-19 rules are being planned, the group said.

These include a symbolic demonstration with the Malta Pride flag in six different locations, a week long exhibition by the Malta LGBTQ Rights Movement entitled “20 Year of Trailblazing”, and an online human rights conference.

A concert will also be organised at Argotti Gardens in Floriana, and will be open to a limited seated audience.

The week’s theme will be #YouAreIncluded.

“The theme reminds us that ensuring Equality for everyone is not a one-size-fits-all approach and that while much has been achieved by the LGBTIQ movement and we are more visible in all sectors of society, there are still members of our communities whose identities and experiences are not understood, seen, or validated”, ARC said.

All the information about the events, any changes and updates will be regularly posted on our website www.maltapride.org.
