Melvin Theuma returned to the stand on Tuesday, exhibiting a copy of the contract of a Mosta property allegedly used as a safehouse from where the 2010 HSBC heist was planned.

He was summoned to testify in the compilation of evidence against Vince Muscat ‘il-Koħħu’, and Darren Debono ‘it-Topo’.

The compilation is being heard before Magistrate Monica Vella. Theuma is the pardoned middleman in the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

In a brief sitting, Theuma handed over a photocopy of the contract for the Mosta property in question.

Defence lawyers Edward Gatt and Mark Vassallo asked the court to exhibit the document in the acts of the case. They reserved the right to cross-examine the witness at a later stage.

Theuma had told the court last month that he had rented the apartment to Debono for a month for the sum of €300 in June 2010.

He said that after the failed heist which resulted in a shootout between police and the would-be robbers, he had found Debono on the bed, bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Last month, PN MP Jason Azzopardi claimed that ministers Carmelo Abela and Chris Cardona had been present for a pre-heist meeting held at the property. They deny the claims.

Muscat, Debono and Fabio Psaila had been charged with the 2010 attempted bank robbery.

The court recently allowed Theuma to testify in the case. Theuma has been granted a pardon over his involvement in the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder on condition that he reveals all on the murder and other crimes.

Vince Muscat, one of the three men who allegedly carried out the hit on the journalist, was jailed for 15 years on a plea bargain after he too shed new light on other crimes.

One of the other two suspected hitmen, Alfred Degiorgio, was also allegedly involved in the failed HSBC heist.
