Three teenagers were injured, one of them seriously, when explosive material went off in Kirkop, the police said.

The accident took place in the Ramlija area at around 5pm.

The area is used for the letting off of fireworks.

The three young men, aged 14, 15 and 16, were all taken to hospital.

The 16-year-old was seriously injured, while the other two boys suffered minor injuries.

Magistrate Victor Axiaq is leading an inquiry.
