A man whose identity is still unknown was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Hamrun early on Monday.

The police said the accident took place in St Joseph High Road at 12.15am.

The man was hit by a Toyota Passo driven by an English man aged 27, who resides in Senglea.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Leonard Caruana is leading an inquiry.
