European Commission chief Ursola Von der Leyen on Thursday will be in Malta to begin the process of transferring European funds to help the country overcome the financial difficulties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Malta will be allocated €345 million as part of a recovery plan approved by the EU.
Von der Leyen will be meeting Prime Minister Robert Abela to symbolically pass on the money, as she is doing with other European heads of government.
Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi has said that the money will be used on 17 projects.
Malta has committed itself to use 49 per cent of the funds on projects associated with climate change and 26 per cent on digital transition and other reforms linked with specific recommendations made by the European Commission.
